Sourdough French Toast
Leftover Sourdough French Toast (The BEST Upgrade)
Turn your leftover sourdough into the most decadent, golden, unbelievably delicious French toast. Everyone has that one recipe they grew up with — but here’s the secret: whatever recipe you already love gets 10x better when you use sourdough.
Why? Because sourdough gives you:
-Crisp, caramelized edges
-Soft, custardy centers
-That subtle tang that makes sweet or savory toppings POP
Want French toast sticks? Slice your loaf into strips before dipping.
Prefer thick diner-style slabs? Cut it chunky and let it soak a little longer.
Sourdough is incredibly forgiving — which makes it PERFECT for “stale bread redemption.”
My Go-To Base Recipe (Simple, Reliable, Yours to Customize)
This is the base recipe I use for all my Diablo Dough French toast variations:
Base French Toast Batter
2 eggs
½ cup milk (any kind)
½ tsp vanilla (optional for sweet versions)
1–2 tbsp sugar (optional)
Pinch of salt
Whisk together, dip your sourdough slices, and cook in butter over medium heat until both sides are golden and crisp.
That’s it — no fuss, no over-complication, just a perfect foundation for ANY flavor direction.
Want to level it up?
