Sourdough Bread Crumbs
Homemade Sourdough Bread Crumbs
Bread crumbs are endlessly useful — from crispy breaded chicken to meatballs, casseroles, and the essential crunchy topper for mac & cheese. They’re one of the easiest (and most delicious) ways to use up sourdough that’s getting a little stale, and I guarantee you already have everything you need in your pantry.
How to Make Sourdough Bread Crumbs
1. Preheat Set your oven to 350°F.
2. Prep Your Bread Make sure your bread is dry (the drier it is, the easier it breaks down).
Cube it into small pieces — about 1-inch chunks.
3. Process Pulse the bread cubes in a food processor until you reach your desired crumb size.
Fine, coarse, rustic — anything goes.
4. Season + Bake Spread the crumbs on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Toss lightly with olive oil and salt.
If you want to add flavorings (highly recommended), wait until after baking.
Garlic powder and Italian seasoning are our go-tos.
Bake for 10–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown.
(Ovens vary — keep an eye on them!)
5. Finish + Store Remove from the oven and immediately toss with any additional seasonings.
Let cool fully.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 1–2 weeks,
or freeze for up to 3 months.
