Let’s turn stale sourdough into something devilishly delicious. 😈🔥
HOT HONEY INFERNO FRENCH TOAST
Sweet heat + buttery crisp edges = pure magic.
Ingredients (Serves 2–3)
For the custard:
2 large eggs
1/3 cup milk
2 tbsp heavy cream
1 tbsp sugar OR maple syrup
½ tsp vanilla
½ tsp cinnamon
Pinch of salt
For the hot honey drizzle:
Use store-bought OR make your own:
3 tbsp honey
1–2 tsp hot honey OR chili crisp
Optional: squeeze of lemon
Optional: pinch of smoked paprika
Warm before serving.
Bread:
3–4 slices of Diablo Dough sourdough
(Cinnamon swirl, jalapeño cheddar, or classic all work!)
For cooking:
Butter
Toppings:
Choose 2–4:
Hot honey (essential!)
Flaky sea salt
Thin jalapeño slices
Crispy bacon
Crushed red pepper flakes
Fresh berries
Lime zest
Drizzle of chili crisp
Instructions
1. Make the custard.
Whisk eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar/maple, and salt.
2. Make the hot honey.
Warm honey with hot honey or chili crisp until drippy and glossy. (You can always use store bought as well!)
3. Dip the sourdough.
Soak each slice 10–15 seconds per side.
4. Cook.
Butter pan → medium heat → 2–3 minutes per side.
Edges should be golden, crisp, and lightly caramelized.
5. Plate dramatically.
Drizzle generously with hot honey
Add flaky salt
Top with jalapeños, bacon, berries… whatever fire level you want
Finish with one more tiny drizzle of hot honey for shine
Serve immediately.
(This one gets better the longer the honey soaks in.)
Why This Recipe Works
This is flavor contrast at its absolute finest:
✔ Sweet custard meets spicy honey
✔ Cinnamon warmth balances chili heat
✔ Butter caramelizes the edges
✔ Sourdough gives structure + tang
✔ Flaky salt makes flavors explode
It’s simple, dramatic, and SO Diablo Dough™.
Turn It Into a HOT HONEY INFERNO BREAKFAST SANDWICH
This variation is already becoming a Diablo Dough legend in my head.
Here’s how to build it:
Ingredients:
2 slices Hot Honey Inferno French Toast
1–2 fried eggs (over-medium is perfect)
Crispy bacon strips
Extra hot honey
Flaky salt
Thin jalapeño slices
Optional: slice of pepper jack or cheddar
How to Assemble the Breakfast Sandwich
1. Cook the French toast as above.
2. Fry your egg(s).
Over-medium gives you creamy yolk without a full flood — but over-easy is amazing for dramatic photos.
3. Layer it up:
Bottom:
Slice of Hot Honey French Toast
Drizzle of hot honey
Sprinkle of flaky salt
Middle:
Crispy bacon
Thin jalapeños
Top:
Fried egg
Extra drizzle of hot honey
Optional: slice of cheese
Finish:
Top with your second slice of French toast and another tiny drizzle of hot honey.
Open-Faced Inferno Melt (optional variation)
One slice of Hot Honey French Toast
Spread with a thin layer of cream cheese or ricotta
Top with bacon and jalapeños
Add fried egg
Drizzle hot honey
Dust with paprika or chili flakes
It’s messy, spicy, gorgeous — and perfect for a fork-and-knife brunch.
Storage & Reheating
Reheat French toast slices in a skillet or air fryer.
Sandwiches are best eaten immediately for max crispness.
